We Achieved Total Freedom — and Broke the One Thing We Need Most
We now have:
- freedom from dogma
- freedom from scarcity (for many)
- freedom to reinvent ourselves every week
- tools that remove almost all friction
And the result?
Record levels of anxiety, loneliness, and the quiet feeling that nothing really matters.
Something went wrong.
We lost what matters most — meaning and clarity.
The Uncomfortable Diagnosis
The modern experiment rested on one huge assumption:
“Give the human mind total liberty + perfect information + unlimited technology and it will naturally discover lasting purpose and happiness.”
It didn’t.
Instead we got:
- endless scrolling for the next dopamine hit
- identity musical chairs
- optimization loops that feel meaningful for three months and then collapse
- rational ethics that sound bullet-proof on paper and evaporate the moment life gets hard
The human mind, left completely to itself, has an extremely high long-term error rate when it comes to meaning.
History Keeps Proving the Same Point
Every time a civilization says
“Let’s throw out the old maps and let pure reason + individual freedom build new ones from scratch”
…within two or three generations the maps are gone and people are lost.
Athens → hedonism + sophistry
French Revolution → terror → Napoleon
1960s counter-culture → 1980s materialism
2010s “build your own meaning” → 2020s mental-health crisis
Pattern recognized.
So Is the Answer to Go Backward?
No.
Going backward into coercive dogma is just the mirror image of the same mistake — same high error rate, different flavour.
We don’t need less freedom.
We need a foundation that has a far lower error rate than the unaided human mind.
A Foundation with Empirical Track Record
For thousands of years one knowledge system has kept producing people who are simultaneously:
- deeply happy
- purposeful
- creative
- resilient
- kind
- inwardly free, regardless of outer circumstances
…without needing perfect conditions, constant therapy, or new apps.
That system is the bhakti lineage resting on the simple axiom:
You are an eternal conscious being whose natural function is to love and be loved by the Supreme Person.
Everything else — duties, roles, science, art, technology — is arranged around that single point, the way planets orbit the sun.
When the centre is correct, freedom stops feeling like vertigo.
This Is Not a Call to “Become Religious”
It is an invitation to notice that the human mind alone keeps failing the meaning test, century after century, and to become curious about a framework that has been stress-tested for millennia and still works.
Not because it reshapes society from the outside,
but because it reshapes the person from the inside.
So the question becomes simple:
What if we tried the one experiment we keep refusing to try — putting relationship with the Absolute at the centre and watching what happens to daily life?
Taste and see.
Because the current experiment — total freedom + human intellect + technology — is already underway.
And the results are in.
If your heart says “maybe there’s something here,” you’re not alone.
